Legacy

I reached out my hand in desperation
Searching for an answer to the questions in the soft, white rain
You were there to pull me in

You left me in my quiet solitude
But held my hand behind my back
Fingers entwined
Souls meeting for the first time in the pale blue rain
We never let go

Together we sheltered ourselves from the velvet violet rain
Tasting the sweet droplets on our skin
And slowly, when we weren't looking
With me on your shoulders and you on mine
We had silently touched the sky and felt the wings of the angels in flight

I reach out my hand in desperation
But can only feel your hand slowly slipping away
A gentle cry from you echoes through my spine as I sit alone
Lost
Slowly, painfully, I watch you being torn away in the midnight rain

Now with a final white droplet from my eyes
The rain begins to turn red
And I wonder if it was a dream as my skin tingles from you
I can only hope those perfect memories will remain embedded in your mind
Just as they rest sweetly next to my heart

Like an iridescent drop that drips onto a still lake
And spreads with but a touch
A glimmer of a rainbow
And a ripple through history
The legacy of you
